Clifford The Big Rock Jump

Today in Dubrovnik we went on a tour, but a different type to the usual tours we take. We went kayaking! We kayaked out to an island not too far from the old town and learnt a bit about it from our guide. He also told us about the history of who ruled over the city over the many many years.

On our way to the snorkeling beach mum asked the guide where he was from and he ended up telling us about his life as a child. I found it hard to believe what he was saying. He told us about how when he was a kid he was in a car crash and did some bad damage to his arm but because he was from Bosnia but living in Croatia and his family was Croatian, the hospitals would not treat him as he was from Bosnia. He then had to move back to Bosnia to get treatment for his arm right at the peak of the war going on there. When he had got his arm fixed and he was at home one-day a bomb landed really close to their house and caused a tree to fall over and landed on a lady killing her.

Hearing this story made me realize how lucky we are to live in a country with so little conflict. Ok now that got a little deep so let's move back to our day.

After the island we kayaked to a beach where we stopped and had a swim and where Max jumped off a big cliff which he will tell you about. The beach was great for snorkeling and our guide gave us bananas to feed the fish which they loved. I however did not love how much the fished loved them because I wanted to try feeding them, little did I know that the fish would follow me everywhere when I had the banana in my hand above the water! As most people would probably know, I am not a fan of fish and other sea creatures and having hundreds of fish following me was terrifying! I frantically tried to throw the banana as far away from me as possible and I was in an area where I couldn't touch the bottom and mum and Max told me I looked like I was drowning. The fish however seemed to think I still had food so I quickly swam my way through the fish (eek) and back to the shore for a while.

On the way back the water became a bit choppy and gave us a good arm work out. Most of the way back all I heard was mum saying 'left, left left and right, left, right...' I was not the best at kayaking but I did slowly get better, it's lucky I'm good at following instructions because otherwise me and mum would have been hopeless getting back! I would have made it very difficult!

When we got back we were all exhausted and went out for a lovely dinner which was a nice way to end the day.

Alyssa

Since Alyssa has already explained today I will talk about the beach. After a long kayak paddle we arrived at the beach. This would be where we went snorkelling and I went rock jumping. We snorkelled for about half an hour before I decided to check out a rock jump. I wasn't originally going to do a big jump but when I saw the rocks below the smaller jump I thought holy squished avocados that's dangerous. For those of you who don't know that is my way of saying holy guacamole. So off I went, I slowly ascended the rocks. Luckily no one could see me climbing the rocks, let's just say it wasn't in an orderly fashion. I got up on the rock with an Australian couple the first to jump was the man. He told me he wasn't sure he was going to do it and turned his back on the jump. In that moment I thought I'm not doing this if someone else hasn't. Just as I thought he was going back he looked at me and did a perfect backflip off. This guy was another breed. Then his girlfriend jumped, that was when I realised I could do it. So up I got I counted 3 2 1 and jumped. I was kinda expecting a cheer like everyone else got but it never came. Dad didn't let me down though he told me I was crazy, that's when I knew I had accomplished something awesome. We spent a while swimming around and warming up from the cold water after this we were off back to the start where we went back for dinner and a sleep.
