Giddy Up

Today we (apart from Max who enjoyed a great sleep in) woke up at the early time of 7:00 to go horse riding! After a long time trying to find a good place to go on a trail ride here at Kefalonia I finally found one and it sure was great!

The stables was run by a kind German lady who had the most beautiful horses. The horses were all haflingers which is a breed that is strong and built for carrying people and items around. They were sooo pretty, most of them were a creamy colour with a white mane, which Mum's horse was but the pony I rode was a bit darker and browner and had super cute eyes.

On the ride we went up part of a mountain and got some amazing views of Kefalonia. We also rode past a big paddock full of goats in very random places. There was a shed in the paddock that was full of goats and apparently they sometimes sit on top of the roof. We had a really nice guide who was an 18 year old girl who had a very interesting story about her life. Me and Mum enjoyed listening to her story along our ride. The coolest story was the one about her horse. Her horse was from Portugal and over there the horse chooses the rider instead of the rider choosing the horse. So she had to sit on and ride a whole heap of horses until she found the one that chose her. She told us that only she can ride the horse, for anyone else he misbehaves and throws them off but he is amazing for her. I think the horse choosing the rider is a great idea!

Back to the ride, we rode along a road that isn't really used by cars anymore and up to a bench that was put there for the bachelorette. Oh and I forgot to say, the pony I was riding was on the bachelorette and used for the bachelorette person to ride up the hill on. So I rode a movie star pony! From the bench area we had an awesome view of multiple towns and the sea. It made for a great picture!

This activity was probably the one I was looking forward to the most right from the get go and it sure was an incredible experience! We even got to trot at the end and I was surprised by mum's good ability to ride! I can’t wait to get back home and get riding again but I think this is one ride I will never forget!
