Trains, Queen and Switzerland

Today we said Goodbye to France and at some point on our first of three trains for the day made it across the border to Switzerland. Such a mind blowing concept for us whose border finishes at the ocean.

It was mid afternoon by the time we reached our next stop (Montreux, Switzerland). This was Richard’s destination choice, as it was the location where Queen recorded a number of albums. We spent the afternoon at the Queen Studio experience. The memorabilia here was awesome. To see Freddie’s yellow jacket and a number of hand written song scripts was very cool. The water front statue of Freddie was another spot well worth visiting.

This part of the trip has been a real highlight. Montreux is real bucket list location for me and visiting the Queen Studio Experience and the Freddie Mercury statue that looks across Lake Geneva was something i have looked forward to for a very long time. The Studio was fantastic, lots of memorabilia including Freddie's handwritten lyric sheets,  some of his famous and infamous outfits he wore and lots of interactive exhibits. The best one for me was the mixing desk where you could bring the various instruments and vocal tracks in and out of the mix to get a feel for what secrets are tucked away in a couple of their songs. Was also a bit of an emotional experience as there is a spot marked in the Studio where Freddie recorded his last ever vocal performance, and a really good short film about the history of the band which had some really nice memories recorded from Brian May and Roger Taylor.

I also spent some quality time at the statue trying to get the perfect shot which I've been wanting to do for many years and I'm pretty happy with the result 😀

10/10, would definitely do this all again. Aside from all the Queen based attractions, Montreux is a stunning town and the lakeside walk offers awesome views and no shortage of cafes, restaurants and souvenir stands to keep you poor!

Here it is, the photo I've been wanting to take for a very long time, May 14th 2023.
